ABSTRACT

Objective::To observe the efficacy of Wenfei Jianpi decoction on moderate to severe persistent allergic rhinitis (AR) with Lung Qi deficiency and cold syndrome and its effect on substance P (SP) in nasal secretions and peripheral blood proinflammatory factors. Method::One hundred and sixty-six patients were randomly divided into control group and observation group by random number table. Patients in control group got budesonide nasal spray, 2 times/days, and cetirizine hydrochloride tablets, 10 mg/days. And patients in observation group got Wenfei Jianpi decoction for oral, 1 dose/day. A course of treatment was 8 weeks. Before and after treatment, nasal obstruction, itching, sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, tears and nasal sign were scored, nasal airway resistance was detected, and rhinoconjunctivits quality of life questionnaire (RQLQ) were scored. Before and after treatment, levels of SP immunoglobulin E (IgE) in peripheral blood, interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-5 (IL-5), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were detected, and eosinophil (EOS) were calculated. Result::By rank sum test, the clinical efficacy in observation group was better than that in control group (Z=2.073, P<0.05). Before and after treatment, scores of total score of nasal symptoms, ocular symptoms and subjective symptoms and nasal sign score were all lower than those in control group (P<0.05). Except sleep and emotion, scores of other dimensions and the total scores of RQLQ were all lower than those in control group (P<0.05). EOS in observation group was less than that in control group (P<0.05). And nasal resistance declined in observation group (P<0.05), and levels of IgE, SP, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, TNF-α and nasal resistance were lower than those in control group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Conclusion::Wenfei Jianpi decoction can be used to treat moderate to severe persistent allergic rhinitis by relieving subjective symptoms and signs, improving quality of life, inhibiting inflammatory factors and reducing allergic reaction.

ABSTRACT

@#【Objective】To analyze the risk factors of delayed hemorrhage after colon polyp resection.【Methods】We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of patients who underwent endoscopic polypectomy between January 2010 and December 2018,in which 106 patients with delayed hemorrhage were hemorrhage group, while 3 856 patients who did not bleed were the controlled group, and Logistic regression model was applied to screen the risk factors of hemorrhage after polyp resection.【Results】Of the 3 962 patients included in the study,106 had delayed post polypectomy hemorrhage, the hemorrhage rate being 2.68%. 89.6% delayed hemorrhage occurred within 3 days after polypectomy. Logistic regression analysis showed that the difference of polyp size, complicated hypertension, combined with chronic nephropathy, aspirin drug history and warfarin drug history in hemorrhage group and control group was statistically significant(P values were 0.011,0.009,0.028,0.001,0.023,respectively).【Conclusion】The size of polyps, comorbidity of hypertension, chronic renal disease ,application of aspirin and warfarin were considered to be independent risk factors for post-polypectomy delayed hemorrhage, most of hemorrhage occurred within 3 days. According to the risk factors of patients,we may predict the risk of delayed hemorrhage.

ABSTRACT

Flavonoids, including flavones, flavonols, anthocyanins, flavanones, chalcones, flavan, proanthocyanidins, isoflavonoids and biflavonoids, etc, are natural components in our diet and plants. Several beneficial properties have been attributed to these compounds, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogenic effects, etc. Flavonoid preparations are marketed as herbal medicines or dietary supplements for a variety of alleged nontoxic therapeutic effects. However, they have yet to pass controlled clinical trials for efficacy, and their potential for toxicity is an understudied field of research. This review summarizes the current studies on the toxicity induced by flavonoids and gives some advices for ingesting flavonoids.

ABSTRACT

As the technologies of separation, purification and determination develop rapidly, more and more peptide compounds, which have special bioactive and medical value, have been separated from natural plants, such as oligopeptides and cyclopeptides. The chemical structures and function of these plant peptides have been researched profoundly. This paper mainly reviews the composition, structure, bioactive function and medicine value of representative plant peptides in recent years, and can give some references about research and application of plant bioactive peptides.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the efficacy of Jiawei Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Decoction (JHGWD) in treating neuro-sensory toxicity induced by oxaliplatin.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A randomized controlled self-crossover trial was performed. Thirty-one patients were randomly divided into AB and BA groups. Patients in A cycle belonged to the treated group, who were treated with chemotherapy combined with oxaliplatin plus JHGWD. Patients in B cycle belonged to the control group and were treated with chemotherapy alone. The peripheral neuro-sensory toxicity was observed and analyzed.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The main neurotoxicity was cold-induced paresthesia after the use of oxaliplatin, which included hyperaesthesia, chill, anaesthesia in the extremities, electrified sensation, formication, foreign body sensation and pain that might be exacerbated by exposure to cold. Twenty patients (64.5%) suffered from neuro-sensory toxicity in the treated group and 27 cases (87.1%) in the control group. Symptoms were more serious and lasted longer in the control group than those in the treated group (P < 0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>JHGWD could prevent and reduce the occurrence and intensity of acute peripheral neuro-sensory toxicity caused by oxaliplatin.</p>

ABSTRACT

The extraction and separation of effective components from Chinese herb and natural plant is one of the most important processes of natural medicine production. Recently, more and more advanced techniques have been used in the field of modern Chinese medicines, for example, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). Developed on the base of traditional extracting technology using by organic solvents, MAE is of higher extraction rate and efficiency and better extract quality, as well as few investment, simple equipment, wide adaptability, high selectivity, good fidelity and no pollution. This paper mainly reviews the action principle and characteristic of MAE and its application in the extraction of natural products such as flavonoids, glycosides, polysaccharides, terpenoids and essence. Otherwise, the developing foreground of MAE is also prospected here.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of taxol-based chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer (AGC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Twenty-nine patients with AGC treated with taxol-based protocols: taxol plus 5-fluouracil 17 patients, taxol plus cisplatin 10 patients, taxol plus epirubicin 2 patients.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Twenty-six patients were evaluated for clinical response. There was no complete response, PR 10 (34.5%), SD 12 (41.4%), PD 4 (13.8%). The total response rate was 34.5%. The clinical beneficial response rate was 72.4% (21/29). Median time to progression (mTTP) was 5.8 months and median overall survival time was 9.3 months. The main side effects were: suppression of bone marrow in 26 patients (89.7%), alopecia in 25 (86.2%), myodynia and arthrodynia in 23 (79.3%). There was no death during the treatment.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Taxol-based chemotherapy is an effective and well tolerated regimen in the treatment of AUC, which can relieve suffering and improve quality of life of the patients. It can be used as the second-line therapy for relapsed advanced gastric cancer.</p>
